I went to the mail box today and got the mail. I noticed an envelope from the Oregon Department of Revenue. My first reaction was ‘slight confusion‘. I did my taxes already and got my return via direct deposit. Very nice. So when i pulled that envelope out i wasnt sure what to expect.

I opened it up and it started to look like a check and i imediatly thought, “crap they made a mistake and sent me a check as well a deposit“. Nope!!! To my suprise Oregon has a system of Kicker Checks. When their “actual revenues exceed forecast revenues by 2% or more they send out a check with my share of that refund. I got 18.6% of my 2006 Oregon income tax back“. Not to mention what they sent me last year.

Simply unbelievable. Ive never heard of such a thing and certainly wasnt expecting it. I have to admit i dont mind getting money, especially when it comes from a place where they are usually taking it.

I am definitely a ‘glass is half full‘ kind of guy. I think some people may feel cheated that this money was taken in the first place. Im just glad to see it.
