Web 101 – Domain Names
The web is a huge place with a lot of things that seem to have a magic curtain in front of them and some where back there the wizard controls it all from one huge supper computer. (his brain)
This is a common misconception that there is someone out there with their brain connected to the computer, I think you’re more likely to see something like Tron.
So here is a little Web 101 on DomainNames…
- Hosting – There is a difference between hosting a website and hosting a Domain Name.
- Support – If you call your Support # to ask a question about your DomainName and you have to leave a message or their not open than your probably hosting with the wrong company.
- $ – It’s $10 or less, if your name is available you should probably just buy it.
- Your Info – Make a file that has a link to the Company that hosts your name, your Login, Expiration Date and if you are on Auto Renew.. (if you don’t know these thing you probably should)
- If a friend has paid for your Domain Name don’t expect it to last more than a year…
Thats about it, these simple steps will help ensure that you never loose your DomainName and will help you to be sure you get hosted with quality Host… Might I suggest BlueHost or DreamHost, I’ve also heard Host Gator and MediaTemple are good
