This is ecto which is a desktop publishing app for the mac which I think you’ll like to check out if you’re into having more control over you blog publishing. (not to mention the fact that if you’re like me you can’t stand having a publisher that tells you how to write your html)
I pretty sure I saw the copywrite say 2003-2009 so I get the feeling this one has been around for a while. The company that developed this App (illumineX.com) also has iBlogger.
This is my first post so I really can’t give you a fair comparison on what I think, but I’ll let you know. I’ve been using MarsEdit which is a great app and has some amazing features. No custom fields though, which I’ve been wanting to have for many reasons.
Do you use a Desktop App for publishing your Posts? OR are you old-school diehard “gotta use my browser!”
Almost forgot, for all of you WordPress peeps out there that dislike the WP Post Editor this app is for you!

ooh…i'm excited to try it out.
i hate being browser based, but hadn't really done a lot of research into clients.
luckily i read your blog/twitter and can copy everything you do.
Definitely want to hear how this works out for you. I liked Marsedit but the custom fields issue is a bummer. I have been using scribefire for firefox for drafts but, I really need more features.
Just want to let you know that custom fields support is high on my list of priorities for future updates. I've been wanting to add it for some time, but the reason I've waited is I need to overhaul the MarsEdit edit window to really do it right. I don't like the solution of needing to type in the name of the custom field, and the value, every time you use it. In MarsEdit custom fields will show up just like Title, Excerpt, etc. do.
Daniel,
Just wanted to say, I think MarsEdit is freaking awesome. So far I'm way more impressed with your UserInterface and the simplicity of the App as a whole. To be honest I haven't had a chance to use custom fields in Ecto yet, but some of the other features in ecto seem a little odd and clunky. (no offense ecto)
Coming from 9months of MarsEdit I would love to see Custom Fields added to the fold. I've always figured things like Custom Fields would come in as your development allowed.
Three Cheers for MarsEdit!!!
(please excuse me while i go wipe the brown off of my nose….;)
Heh – I'm glad you appreciate the design of MarsEdit. I'm a bit slower adding new features because I take my time trying (hoping!) to get it done right. But the enthusiastic response when people appreciate the finer details is always gratifying.
