Blogging 101 | It’s a Post not a Blog

Do you know the answer to this question. What is the difference between using the term “Blog” and the using the term “Post”?

If you are an “Author” of a “Blog” than you are a “Blogger”. As an “Author” you “Publish” content one “Post” at a time to your “Blog”.

When you announce that you have written new content you should say something like this:

  • “I have a new Post out”
  • “Just Published a New Post
  • “Check out my Latest Post
  • “My latest Blog Entry is a Masterpiece, Go Now”
  • “Just finished the worst Blog Post ever, I should delete it.”

Never do the following:homer.png

  • “New Blog up, Go Now”
  • “Just finished a new Blog check it out.”
  • “My latest Blog is a master piece, You’ll love it.”
  • “Just wrote the best Blog ever in my entire life, better than you ever.”
  • “I Blogged a Blog and Blogged it to my Blog, You should Blog it!” Doe!!!

What am I getting at?

Don’t say stupid things like “I just finished a new Blog“, unless you actually just started a new Blog at Blogspot.com or WordPress.com or TypePad.com…. Do you see my point! The word Blog is talking about a specific Blog associated with a unique URL.

  • Blog, Blogger, Blogging, Blogged
  • Post, Posting, Posted

I am a big fan or black, red and green… blue is pretty cool too.

  2. Reminds me of when Dad and I used to sit on some lawn chairs in the front yard and eat bug on a chip…

  3. I knew that.
But I know it would surely be helpful for some people.

  4. Thanks for the tips! I can use all of them I can get!

  5. Like your blog incoherent blogospheric blog log brother…thanks for the etiquette point in the right direction…

  6. Thanks, Randy. You put it in not-so-sure-older-lady-ease! This is still new to me and your definitions were on spot. It's kind of like, "oh, yeah, that makes perfect sense". :)

  7. "Doe!" – Lol
    Funny and so true

Very insightful… oh wise one… I think I've deducted an even further conclusion. So… since blog is a noun, the verb "blogging" shouldn't even exist, right? Case in point: You should say: "I am posting a blog right now". Never say: "I am blogging right now"… I'll settle for a gold star…

Pay no attention to the misuse of "blog" in my first example sentence… ummm….ahem…. gold star replaced by big fat red check mark… I promise though, in my head I GET it! (which really doesn't help my case at all) So… how about that "blogging"?

  9. Aislynn

Wow, you actually hesitated? But I know better…. considering blogs are your life's work, you will never let me live this one down… EVER… crap! Of all things… I had to botch that up…

  10. Yes! Yes! Yes!

I've always felt this way, but never had the balls to say it.

    Well done.

At least I have the balls to say…balls…

Does html work on these comments? If it doesn't this post is going to look weird …
Other incorrect ways to use the word "blog":
The other day I was walking my blog dog, when I tripped over a blog log and came face to face with a blog frog. I think I tripped because of my shoes so I decided to try blogs clogs. Then again it could have been because of the blog fog. (Yes, I am feeling quite silly :-p)
