Sucky Job to have in the Summer
I was just outside for a bit and I noticed a few guys working on a roof. They were re-roofing a house. I started to think about how glad I was that I’m not Paving this summer.
Working outside in the heat is definitely not on my to-do list for the summer, but I can respect those guys that are spending their summer busting their ass to provide for their families.

(you know you wish this was you…I spent the better part of my 20′s paving roads…)
Anyone out there ever done any seriously grueling summer jobs???

Not that grueling, but for me it’s pretty terrible.
I coach little [evil] kids in a summer sports camp that runs for 10 hours and most of those hours are spent outside. Yippee.
Working at a dry cleaners. (it didn’t last long) But it gets really hot in there!
I did construction work back in college over the summers. It looked about as fun as it does in the picture..
No, but I thought you should know that it’s 108 in Auburn, today. yuck.
annie – that is my point exactly… that weather is only bearable when I have the river in mind… oh how I love the river…sigh
I’m the same as Amos. Once a week we had concrete jobs. I’ve never been so drenched of sweat…construction in the summer is not the best.
…and then there’s this http://www.auburnjournal.com/detail/88177.html
They say breathing in Auburn right now is like smoking a cigarette. Be glad you’re in Nashville.
One summer in college i laid sod at a new elementary school. Miserable. I still get chills and nightmares when i think about those days. I think difficult jobs like that build character, but i’ll be happy if i never have to do it again!
When you all were little Mike asphalted for a summer. His black hair was bleached white by the sun. He smelled like oil and it was incredibly hot, hard work. He was in great shape. But very tired.

PS I’m glad you are not doing that also.
I held up a shovel for four or five summers at a construction company, plus I grew up on a farm. I have reroofed a house before (pretty crappy), ran the hose on the vac truck (really hot), dragging mud when laying down some concrete, and I’m sure there are others. But no asphalt!
