Music and me

base_image.jpegI like music, most of the time i pay for music. Thing is Ive only got 3 new albums since 2005. Thats counting the payed for ones and the not payed for ones. I really do like music, but somehow I end up putting the same cd on for days or weeks at a time. I actually had a friend that told me one time that I should stop listening to an album because he said that listening to the same thing that long wasnt good for me. (311 Transistor)

Thing is Im beginning to wonder if I should be listening to the bands im doing work for. Im pretty sure im not ready for that. I think it might put me into a strange Visual, Audio coma where I have dreams of a miniture Connersvine, jammin in the closet, kicking footballs at my computer and stuff. probably not going to happen.

  1. This is something I’ve been struggling with because I’m just not finding much new music that I like. I’m a cynic, but I think it’s true that popular music is just getting worse. Not saying that no one’s making good music. It’s just that you won’t find them on the radio stations. You need to do the legwork. And I do a fair amount of searching on Last.fm and Myspace (ick). I should do more on sites like Virb and Purevolume.

Brooke Fraser has been a pleasant surprise for me ever since finding her on Elizabeth Seay’s blog. But after that, I find myself popping in the same 90s rock and old hip-hop that I’ve been doing since high school. I don’t want to be the old fogey who’s unwilling to try anything new! And for the sake of my personal music, I need to keep taking in something fresh and challenging.

Concerning your work — I think you should listen to the bands you work for to, if for nothing else, get a feel for who they are so your work might be a little more personalized.
